Land That I Love
By William Freedman

When two rival presidents in the distant future, foes since their youth, declare a galactic hyper-power war, a series of events ensue which transforms America’s place in the world … and beyond!

With devilish delight William Freedman upends icons, role models and expectations with laugh-out-loud irreverence.
His characters defy tradition and stereotyping, revealing the mayhem and high jinks which – without doubt – exist within the hallowed halls of existing rival countries, let alone imaginary future nations and governments.

Outrageous slap-and-tickle combined with political prods and withering insight make Land that I Love a compelling lampoon. Add ‘Blazing Saddles meets War of the Worlds’ and you begin to appreciate the riotous read in store.

Move over Tom Sharpe, Christopher Brookmyre, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, David Sedaris, Eoin Colfer, Ambrose Gwinett Bierce …

Bring in Mel Brooks. Wesley Snipes and Robin Williams – and apologize to H.G. Wells – what a sassy, satire-embraces-sci-fi experience they would serve up!

Reviews:

Values roasting on an open fire… In a mad romp through the long corridors of extrapolation fiction, Freedman maps a universe where commercial interests have taken unabashed control. An unbroken line of folly and unrestrained force have fractured America and made the remnants a steamroller with a leader and his enemies no longer trying to sort who did what in their quest for opportunities to attack. A biting and chewing satire that shreds the eye of the needle. Frighteningly funny, terribly believable, and entirely readable. Ben Parris, author of Wade of Aquitaine (Blueberry Lane Books)

Irreverently over-the-top in places and chillingly right-on-the-mark in others but always funny, Land That I Love will make you laugh and cry from the beginning to the end. Especially the end. - Leonid Korogodski, author of the upcoming sci-fi novel "Pink Noise"

A hip, clever, and extremely funny SF satire on the entire first decade of the 21st century. With its purgative guffaws, LAND THAT I LOVE serves as a kind of necessary medicine for those of us who are still feeling ill from the outrageous cultural and geopolitical idiocies of the aughts. - Matt Cardin, author of Dark Awakenings.
