CFI Tools AreaWx

------------------------------------
CFI Tools Area Weather - AreaWx
-----------------------------------
?PURPOSE: The Area Weather App is used to check METARs and TAFs plotted on a color-coded map, an enhanced text table or in raw data format. The weather is displayed for all METAR stations within the specified area. The area is defined by a METAR station and a radius around the station.

METARs on a Map
-----------------
The METAR data is displayed on a map that adjusts based on the size of the area. The METARs are colored coded based on the aviation flight category (VFR, MVFR, IFR, LIFR) for the station. The color coding and placement on the map gives a good quick overview of the current weather in the area.

METARs in a Table
-------------------
The METAR data may also be displayed in a table that allows more detailed viewing for stations in the area. The stations are sorted based on their distance from the base station. Tap any station in the table to see the complete raw data for the METAR and if available TAF.

METARs and TAF raw data
----------------------------
A simple display of the raw METAR and TAF data. This includes up to 36 hours history for the station.

How it works
----------------
Touch the "AREA" button to define the Area.
The Area is defined by entering the ICAO identifier for the station. There is a fast search function that allows search by ID, airport name or city. After a station is chosen simply enter the radius and touch Done.
An internet connection is required to get the METAR data.

Options Tab
--------------
You can select a default Airport and Radius to be loaded at startup as the default Area.
You can have the App start-up on either the Map tab the Stations Table tab or the raw data tab.
Measurement units for Wind speed, Temperature and Distance and amount of history can be set on the Options Tab.

Airports in the Database
--------------------------
PLEASE NOTE: The source of the METARs used in this App is NOAA’s National Weather Service Aviation Weather Center. It can be found here:
http://aviationweather.gov/adds/metars/

If the METAR station can not be found with this site, it will not be in the App.

As Always
----------
Make sure that any Weather information is verified using the approved weather sources.

Please Note
-------------
This App has been thoroughly tested with MEATAR information from around the world. However I want to emphasize the need to verify this data.
One thing that you may not realize is that METAR data may be entered by hand. That means that it is possible that there could be typos or simply some added information that is not expected by the software. This added information could cause unpredictable results and the user should be alert to this possibility.

CFI Tools Mvx Tracks

----------------------
CFI Tools Mvx Tracks
---------------------

PURPOSE: The Mvx Tracks App is used to track, save and analyze flight maneuvers.

While training for your pilot certificate you are required to perform a number of flight maneuvers to PTS standards. This App is a tool that can be used to help achieve performance to these standards

The App allows you to record the track of your flight using the iPhone GPS receiver. These tracks include date, time, latitude, longitude, altitude, course and speed.

Mvx Tracks allows you to review these recorded tracks to see where you did well and where you might need some work to improve your performance.

During recording the tracks are integrated with the Google maps familiar to any iPhone user. The maps can be displayed as either the Map or the Satellite photo. So next time you perform some S-Turns across a road, you can record the track and when you are back on the ground re-play it at your leisure to see how well you maintained those equal radius turns on each side of the road.

3D VIEWING on your MAC or PC!
------------------------------
You can also convert the tracks into a Google Earth .kml file.

A Google Earth .kml file can be emailed to your Mac or PC for use with Google Earth. This allows you to draw terrific 3D views of your flight. With the Google Earth 3D capability you can get a great view of your flight from all angles.

It's not just for maneuver review and practice. You can enjoy reviewing any flight.

You can record your first solo, view it in 3D and print it out as a beautiful picture ready for framing.

Fly it again!
--------------
The .KML file not only gives you the 3D view, but also allows you to use the Tour Control to play back the file and have you and your friends ride along. You can position your point of view just above the track and watch as the file plays following the track of your recorded flight. The view can actually be very similar to what you saw from the cockpit.

If you haven't seen these 3D views, please visit our web site to see some samples you will enjoy them.

HOW TO VIEW ON YOUR MAC or PC - SIMPLE:
----------------------------------------
1. Record the flight
2. Touch the SAVE button
3. On the FILES page, select a file, touch EMAIL
4. Fill in the destination email address
5. On your MAC or PC receive the email and open the .kml attachment
6. Be AMAZED!

GPS Data Filters
----------------------
The performance of the GPS receiver in the iPhone is amazing considering the price and the fact that it is primarily a cell phone. But occasionally it will pick up a signal that causes the GPS plot to take a jump to the North, South or Up and Down. This is no big deal if you are simply watching your position, but if you are recording it may look like you have done some really radical maneuvers.

Mvx Tracks contains software filters that can be used to fix or eliminate some of these errors. These filters may be turned on and off as needed.

The App allows you to display speed in a number of units including knots, MPH, KPH and FPS. Distances are displayed in Feet, SM, NM and meters.

BE ADVISED - If you have used the GPS receiver on your iPhone you know that like any GPS it's performance may vary depending on it's position and it's ability to receive a good signal. In general I have been pleasantly surprised by the performance both in flight and on the ground. The flight tracks you see here and on the web page are actual tracks that I have recorded in flight.

CFI Tools Nearest

CFI Tools Nearest
-------------------------

PURPOSE: The CFI Tools Nearest App is used to get Bearing and Distance to Airports and NAVAIDs in the USA.

Simple but very useful tool
--------------------------------
Any pilot that works with a GPS knows how useful the Nearest button is. It is easy to use. It provides important information. It is designed to be simple and that makes it easy to use with one hand.

Nearest Options
---------------------
You can filter points in or out based on type. There are four defined types: Airport, VOR, NDB and Other.
Distance can be displayed in Nautical Miles or Kilometers.
There is a Lock button to stop automatic rotation based on orientation.
Touch the To/From button to switch from Magnetic Bearing "To" to Radial "From".
Simple lookup by NAVAID ID or Name or City.

Origin and Destination
-----------------------------
Origin and Destination points can be chosen. The bearing To and From the destination and the distance to the destination is displayed.
Bearing and distance to the destination is also displayed from the Current Location.

Nearest Error Checking
-----------------------------
Altitude from the GPS is displayed, but I will caution you that in my experience this value can be somewhat difficult to receive reliably. When the GPS has an unreliable altitude it will be displayed as negative one (-1).

If the GPS signal is lost a red warning flag is displayed along with an error message, but the last valid data will continue to be displayed. If the GPS signal is being received an OK message with a green light flag is displayed.

Nearest Data Base USA ONLY
-----------------------------
The data base of Airports and NAVAIDs is derived from the FAA National Flight Data Center data base. Therefore it contains only data for the United States.

Seven Popular Apps in One
-------------------------------
- Crosswind Calculator
- Hold Viewer
- VOR Viewer
- Weight & Balance
- Takeoff & Landing Distance
- Mvx Tracks
- Area Wx

Increased convenience at a great price
-------------------------------------------
Each of these Apps has been used by pilots around the world. Many users have requested that they be packaged for ease of use and also priced as a package deal. So here it is, seven great Apps rolled together at a price that is less than the sum of the parts.

Apps for Learning and for Practical everyday Use
-------------------------------------------------------
The Crosswind, Holds and VOR Apps are used to make some complex topics easier to understand. These are topics that essential to any pilot especially any student pilot.

The Weight & Balance App, Takeoff & Landing Distance App & Area Wx App are tools that can help with flight planning and preparation. Of course the Area Wx App is something that can be useful in your non-aviation related activities.

The Mvx Tracks App takes advantage of the amazing capabilities of the iPhone and the built-in GPS receiver. You can actually record you flight and replay it later.
The real fun comes from being able to email your recorded flight as a .KML file to your Mac or PC for use with Google Earth. This allows you to draw terrific 3D views of your flight. With the Google Earth 3D capability you can get a great view of your flight from all angles. This is really a nice tool for the student pilot who would like to review maneuvers.

It's not just for maneuver review and practice. You can enjoy reviewing any flight. Or You can record your first solo, view it in 3D and print it out as a beautiful picture ready for framing.

CFI Tools VOR

--------------
CFI Tools VOR
--------------

Purpose: The VOR Tool is used to demonstrate the use of a VOR for navigation. The HSI is used to demonstrate how the pilot uses a VOR/DME and an OBS to determine the airplane's position.

The VOR Tool has three modes:

GRAVITY: In this mode the airplane is moved by tilting the iPhone. The HSI is updated based on the position of the airplane.

RANDOM: In this mode the airplane is moved automatically and will randomly change it's heading when it reaches the wall.

DRAG: In Drag mode the airplane or VOR/DME may be moved by dragging and dropping using the touch screen.

The VOR/DME can be moved in any mode by dragging and dropping.

The Heading can be changed using the slider in Drag mode.

The OBS can be changed using the slider in any mode, the currently selected radial is shown as a red line.

CFI Tools Weight & Balance

-----------------------------
CFI Tools Weight and Balance
-----------------------------

?PURPOSE: The Weight & Balance App is used to save weight & balance information in a simple format for easy reference.

When you fly many airplanes it can be difficult to keep track of the weight & balance for each one. But of course it is critical to perform these calculations before each flight and to verify the results.

The iPhone is a terrific platform for keeping this information.

This App makes it simple to maintain this information for a fleet of training airplanes or even for a single airplane.

Check out the screenshots to see how simple this process can be.

The W&B data is fully customizable. You can enter the specific data for your airplane. There is no limit on the number of stations.

You can create an airplane using a generic version of one of several popular GA aircraft including Cessna, Cirrus, Piper and Diamond.

The CG can be plotted in inches, as in the Cessna, or in moment as in the Diamond.

The CG is plotted with both full and empty fuel so you can see the range of CG's that may be experienced during the flight.

Also shown is the "Excess Capacity" - the difference between current weight and Max Gross. This is a number I often need to know if a student wants to bring a passenger along for the flight.

The Moment Arms and the Envelope are fully updatable and can be customized to fit your airplane's numbers.

CAUTION! Please consult your Pilot's Operating Handbook or Approved Flight Manual for complete Weight & Balance Information

DO NOT! rely on the generic W&B information provided here.
